The Sapporo tourism site describes the winter light festival as one the city says began in 1981. Art installations of various sizes stand in Odori Park, and trees along Ekimae-dori and Minami 1-jo-dori are lit.
Further sites are Sapporo Kita 3-jo Plaza and the JR Sapporo Station South Exit Plaza. The lights stay on until midnight during the Christmas season, and no admission charge is stated.
